Runners High at Yoga on High

2012 Runners High at Yoga on High
Yoga is a practice that brings balance and therapeutic alignment to the stresses that running creates over time. In this workshop series you will learn specific yoga poses, breathing techniques, relaxation skills, joint and muscle anatomy, self-massage, and nutrition tips that combine the benefits of yoga and running at the deepest possible level.
Yoga on High will be teaming up with Fleet Feet and the Marathoners in Training group (MIT) for a series of 2-hour workshops designed to progress you through your running training plan. The runner’s workshops are aligned with the major marathon schedules. One workshop is $25, or you can sign up for all four for $80. These workshops are open to everyone. No past yoga experience is necessary.
Post-Run Recovery
Saturday, February 18
Teachers: Jasmine Grace & Stella Cornett
Smart post-run techniques are an essential part of your training plan. They can enhance physical resilience, boost your post-run energy levels and make you generally more comfortable. In this workshop you’ll learn a yoga sequence designed to help muscles and joints recover from physical stress. All poses will be taught in a way that safely lengthens leg muscles, opens hips, and strengthens the knees. You will also practice simple self-massage techniques and learn nutritional tips that decrease recovery time. No prior yoga experience necessary.
Free Your Run
Saturday, May 19
Teacher: Jasmine Grace
Would you like to understand how the breath works in the body, its relationship to your energy levels and physical resilience, and how to increase lung capacity? Yoga is the science of the breath. This workshop includes warm-up yoga poses, breathing techniques, and creative visualizations designed to remove mental barriers to peak performance. These techniques help with endurance during a run, recovery after a run, and make running more comfortable and enjoyable. No prior yoga experience necessary.
Preventing Injury
Saturday, August 11
Teacher: Stella Cornett
By grasping the rudiments of body mechanics, you will understand your postural habits, how postural distortions contribute to injury, and ways to correct correctly align your body. Then each run moves you toward health instead of injury.
This workshop includes a brief anatomy lecture and a variety of simple yoga postures that will address the major points of injury for runners. It will focus particularly on the bony and muscular design of the lower back and poses that are therapeutic for it. No previous yoga experience necessary.
Restorative Yoga for Runners
Saturday, November 17
Teacher: Stella Cornett
This workshop is strategically scheduled after the Columbus Marathon. Whether you participated in this race or not, please join us for an afternoon of total relaxation—both muscles and mind! This is your reward for months of training and will provide the platform for recovery.
In this workshop you will practice restorative yoga which is done relaxing on yoga props. Specific poses open the hips, shoulders, chest, and back. The restorative process is therapeutic for the internal organs including the heart. You will learn to let go of unneeded tension in the body and leave relaxed and restored for your next run. No prior yoga experience necessary.
